Shop Tours Today - MEMBERS ONLY - Visit in any order you choose.
Time: 9:00 am - 12:00 PM
There are three shops on today's shop tour. All are in Suwanee, GA and within about 5 or 6 miles of each other. Each location will have different parking opportunities. Please be courteous when parking on or beside a street so that local traffic is not impeded. Parking in the host's driveway is typically allowed. Please do not park on the grass or anywhere other than a paved surface without permission from the host.
Ben Lloyd's Shop - 551 Shore Drive, Suwanee 30024 - 770 339-3172 - Map and Directions - Parking at Ben's house: Ben's house is on a cul-de-sac. Please be courteous and do not block neighbor's driveways or mailboxes.
Ben is a fairly recent GWA member and is excited about being on the GWA shop tour schedule. His shop is wheelchair accessible for anyone who needs it.
Bob Black's Shop - 4590 Deep Creek Drive, Sugar Hill 30518 - 770 271-8871 - Map and Directions - NOTE: Google Maps wants to put Bob's address in the wrong cul-de-sac. Stay on Deep Creek Drive through the more-than-90-degree left turn. Bob's house is up the hill on the right. Parking at Bob's house: Bob's house is on a subdivision street. Parking at the curb is allowed. Please do not block neighbor's driveway or mailbox access.
Bob Black's shop is in his basement and is not easily (or maybe at all) wheelchair accessible. In general everyone will enter through his garage and go down the stairs to his shop. Bob has a number of large vintage tools. If you've never seen a really large jointer or planer then you'll enjoy a visit to Bob's shop. Bob likes turning and making bandsaw boxes. He's very knowledgable about woodworking tools - especially vintage tools since he and his son Rob have bought and sold a lot of tools in the past.
Paul Proffitt's Shop - 4835 Short Street, Suwanee 30024 - 770 945-2022 - Map and Directions - NOTE: Google Maps always shows Paul's address at the wrong end of Short Street. Short Street is about 0.2 mile long. Paul's is the 3rd (of 4) driveway on the right (there are only two driveways on the left). Look for a GWA sign near a pair of BRICK MAILBOX COLUMNS. NO HOUSE NUMBER VISIBLE. Parking at Paul's house: Paul's driveway is long and there are a few spaces next to the house and along the driveway for those who need to park closer. Parking on the grass beside the street is OK. Please do not block other driveways or mailboxes.
Paul Proffitt's shop is attached to the end of his garage. Because he has a lot of junk in the way and because his shop is so cramed full of stuff it is really not wheelchair accessible. Paul is also cleaning out some shop and woodworking items and will have a number of tools and some lumber for sale and to give away. There will also be recently (9/25) cut oak and persimmon logs and limbs. Come in your truck or whatever hauling vehicle you have so you can take advantage of the free stuff and some tool bargins. Paul enjoys turning, making 'memory boxes' (basically just mitered boxes), laser engraving and just about anything related to woodworking.
