All members of our Club consider themselves to be woodworkers, but few consider themselves to be artists.  If you'd like to further your journey to becoming an artist, then this class is for you!  The instructor, Kimberly Winkle, teaches art and design at Tennessee Technical University and was previously an Artist in Residence at the Appalachian Center for Craft.  She received her MFA in furniture design from San Diego State University.  Her work is exhibited both nationally and internationally, and is in a number of private and public collections.

During the 8:00 to 9:30 class, Kimberly will discuss the basics of form, color and line.  Her goal is to find a balance of proportion, form and surface enhancement so she can transform the common furniture format into something that is very uncommon.  Her techniques are applicable to all aspects of woodworking - furniture making, turning, carving, etc.

During the optional 9:45 to 1:30 class ($30 charge), Kimberly will actually demonstrate how she paints and draws on the surface of the project paying attention to form and balance.  These surface embellishments help to realize the material's/wood's potential as something other than its normal naked self.  Lunch will be provided.  If interested in attending this optional session, please give your $30 to Steve Mellott no later than March 28.
