Ted Baldwin simplifies woodworking. Today's class was about creating laminations, but it included a lot more. Ted's straightforward approach to basic safety, cutting and finishing techniques always leaves many audience members amazed. Even if you've watched Ted work before, there is always something new to learn.
Some of his techniques include:
" Be safe - use push sticks and blocks to secure stock while keeping hands clear
" Combine similar operations (ripping, gluing, planing, etc) to optimize time
" Use white glue and a roller glue bottle to speed up the gluing process
" Have an array of wood colors and widths available for interesting patterns
" Remove glue squeeze out immediately - dried glue is hard on blades
" Use temporary clamps to hold the stack flat
" Start tightening clamps from the center toward the ends
If you want learn more about how to simplify your woodworking Ted is planning to conduct a two day class in his shop (College Park, GA) on November 25th and 26th (syllabus). He needs at least five people to hold a class so contact Ted early (
