The Gwinnett Woodworkers Association officially started, having an elected board of directors, in 2001. Meetings were held at Stone Mountain Power Tools / Kentec in Lilburn, Georgia. In 2010 the club found a new opportunity that led to more growth and moved to the current Peachtree Woodworking Supply location and into a brand new, dedicated classroom gratiously provided by owners David and Heather Hughes.
Prior to that what became the Gwinnett Woodworkers Association started with Ron Brown, official GWA Founder, providing demonstrations on using the scroll saw and other woodworking tools at Home Depot. From there the growing group met for a time at Gwinnett Tech. As the membership grew the group was able to move to the Stone Mountain Power Tool location in Lilburn.
At the beginning of 2003 the GWA had approximately 50 members. Today the membership hovers between 100 and 150 members.
The club provides a wide variety of woodworking demonstrations nearly every Saturday morning throughout the year. In addition, members with more specialized interests may participate in special-interest-groups that meet once a month on topics primarily targeted toward woodturning, scroll sawing, and woodworking related computer activities. The GWA provides more demonstrations on more topics than any other single woodworking group in Georgia. Many of our demonstrators are club members. We also have other local and not-so-local woodworking demonstrators on a regular basis.
All GWA meetings are open to woodworkers of any skill level from novice to expert. Visitors are always welcome.
