It was announced recently that the board had met to consider an offer from Peachtree Woodworking to move the Saturday meetings to Peachtree’s new store on Jimmy Carter Boulevard. Several of the board members had discussed this possibility with the owner, David Hughes in the previous couple of weeks. After some discussion, a motion was made that we accept David’s offer to move our meetings to their new store.
There were several factors that led to this decision and I am not sure that I remember all of them but I will try to summarize what I do remember. Peachtree Woodworking has a separate room for woodworking seminars which we would use for our meetings. Peachtree offered to provide a place to store our equipment as well as workbenches and any other tools that we needed for our classes. In addition they will offer members of the club discounts and other sales promotions. Peachtree Woodworking would like to have our membership roster with emails to automate these club discounts and promotions. If you do not want us to provide your name and email to Peachtree please notify me immediately.
Peachtree Woodworking is also willing to provide additional space in their attached warehouse behind the showroom for any special events such as seminars from outside guests that we may wish to have which may require more space. They are also interested in having our members hold woodworking seminars at their facilities which would be outside of normal activities for the Gwinnett Woodworkers. In addition, Peachtree Woodworking is interested in promoting the organization through their marketing activities.
We will have one more meeting at Kentec/Stone Mountain Power tolls on December 12th and will need to get our equipment out of the store that day. We will need some volunteers to help disassemble and move our equipment on that day. If you wish to help please come prepared to load up the GWA equipment on to trucks so that we can move it to the new location.
We do appreciate the hospitality shown to us by Kentec/Stone Mountain Power Tool over the past few years and wish them and the employees the best in the future.
The board also discussed what should be done if some members who had already paid their dues for this year did not want to go to Peachtree Woodworking. We decided that we would refund anyone’s dues for next year that did not want to make this move.
